Types of Incense

​Various types of incense are known, the more common ones being-Stick or Wand Incense: This is probably the most common types of incense. In this, the powdered incense mixture is applied over thin sticks for strength and support.
  • Joss Sticks: Here the powdered incense mixture is extruded or formed in to very thin sticks without any inner stick or other support.
  • Cone Incense: Here powdered incense mixture is molded into 1.5 " to 2" cones.
  • Resins & Resin Sticks: This type of an incense is typically a resin mixture, which is drawn out in thick viscous sticks. They are typically burnt by keeping the stick over smoldering charcoals. This type of incense has been commonly used in Vedic Ceremonies and at other religious occasions in Ancient India and similar Hindu traditions.
  • Rope Incense: Here powdered incense mixture is applied onto rope pieces and allowed to dry. This type of incense is very commonly found in the Tibetan tradition and is unique to the Himalayas in India. 
  • Smudge Bundle Incense: Here grasses and other aromatic herbs are bundled together and allowed to dry before being lit for ceremonies. This type of incense is very commonly used in the Native American Indian- Shaman traditional ceremonies for healing and purification.
  • Molded & Coil Incense: Here the incense mixture is molded in various fanciful shapes such as flowers, bells, squares etc. or formed into spiral coils which can then be burnt by hanging the incense on hooks or laid flat on coil rings.
