In a separate pan heat some olive oil and add half a tea spoon of cumin seeds. As the seeds release their fragrance, add finely chopped green chilies (optional). Next add organic green peas. Then add previously cooked oats and wild rice, mix well and cook- covered for a couple of mins. Make sure to not over-cook the peas. Finally, add a pinch of Himalayan pink salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Serve warm by itself, as a side dish or with grilled veggies/fish for a complete nutritious meal! :-)
Here in Canada we get a type of Oats called Prairie Oats- which is considered as a substitute for rice. It is much balancing on the Glycemic index and also very nutritious. Cook such prairie oats and wild rice as you typically do- making sure that the grains are well-cooked but not soggy or pasty! If you don't have access to Prairie oats then you can also use brown rice.
