Avocados are a super food that is actually categorized as a fruit. They are also known as alligator pear. The avocado is rich in fiber whilst being cholesterol and sodium free. The fruit has up to 20 vital nutrients such as fat, potassium, folate, vitamins A, B6, B12 C, D, E, and K. It is loaded with beneficial polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats like omega-3.

Foods that have high omega-3 fatty acids content are well known for maintain a healthy heart, sharp braid and eye sight. Omega-3 rich diets lower inflammation, blood pressure, high cholesterol, depression and arthritis risks, along with many other conditions.

The vitamins in avocados are plentiful. The B vitamins found in avocados support the body’s metabolism and help maintain healthy skin. Vitamin E helps develop and maintain good eyesight and decreases chances of eye conditions such as retinopathy. Vitamin K is essential in helping bones grow correctly and helps maintain the bone density as time passes.

Aside from vitamin K, avocados also have carotenoid leutein, which is an antioxidant known for guarding the eyes from oxidative damage that can cause cataracts, reduced vision and macular degeration.

Folate is a B vitamin that aids tissue and cell development. Folate is necessary for keeping the right amounts of amino acids as well as maintaining a healthy metabolism. It is particularly beneficial during times of quick cell growth and division, as such as during pregnancy or infancy. The folate in avocados also averts Alzheimer’s disease by stopping brain tangles from forming.

The monounsaturated fat in avocados is the fruits main claim to fame. The majority of calories in an avocado are from monounsaturated fat, which is extremely nutritious for the body. Monounsaturated fat helps to lower “bad” cholesterol, also known as LDL cholesterol. It has also been suggested the monounsaturated fat helps to increase “good” cholesterol, or HDL cholesterol. Monounsaturated fat regulates triglycerides found in the blood, as well as diabetes.

Avocado oil has high potassium contents and the most concentration of monounsaturated fats. The monounsaturated fat in avocado oil is called oleic acid and helps stabilize levels of cholesterol. Avocados contain beta-sitosterol and antioxidants that lower the danger of cancer and heart disease.  Beta-sitosterol prevents cancer cells from growing.

Magnesium is also found in avocados and is a crucial nutrient for cardiovascular and bone health. The magnesium also averts type II diabetes, stop migraines and monitors blood pressure.
