Melons like cantaloupes, water melon, and honey dew are known for their sweet taste. They’re high in water making it a very popular fruit particularly during summer. It has minerals like selenium, calcium, fluoride, phosphorous, fluoride, and others. Without further introduction, here are six very important reasons why you should eat melon.

It’s good for the heart
A diet that is low in fat and cholesterol is one of the secrets to maintain a healthy heart. Melons have more than enough nutrients that will keep the hearth in good shape. It has lycopene, and antioxidant that will free the heart from harmful toxins and free radicals, preventing clogged arteries.

Antioxidant is the main key to fight the cancer cells in the body. Melon has lycopene double the content of what you will get in eating tomatoes. It’s also high in Vitamins A and C that combats free radicals, preventing the growth of breast cancer, colorectal cancer, uterine cancer, prostate cancer, and lung cancer.

Red watermelon has amino acid citrulline that promotes blood vessel passage, having good effect to people with erective malfunction. Another study conducted by Dr. Patel from Texas University shows that eating this fruit will help in the treatment of aneurysm.

It has vitamins that treat common body infections like inflammation of the joints, thus treating arthritis and rheumatism.

It’s good for the kidney
Melon has high content of potassium that is proven to help the body cleanse the kidney from salt. Salt accumulation will result to kidney stones. Potassium is also responsible for the regulation of uric acid, and the high water content in melon promotes regular urine cycle, thus preventing the kidney accumulating salt that may form into stones.

It regulates high blood pressure
High blood pressure is caused by the thickening of the veins or blood vessels. The reason for this is high cholesterol. Manganese and Potassium are two main agents that will keep the blood vessels healthy. The two nutrients will promote regular blood passage by preventing sclerosis that if remained unattended, will cause high blood pressure.

Other beneficial effects of watermelon are: losing weight, blood sugar regulation, regulate and normalize insulin manufacturing of the body, and promotes good vision.
