Foods that should be avoided by People with Arthritis

Certain foods can cause more pain to those suffering from arthritis. Knowing which foods to eat and which to stay away from can really help the severity of living with arthritis. Eliminating the following foods from your diet can help manage a healthy lifestyle that is much more comfortable as well.

Since inflammation is a noticeable condition of having arthritis it is wise to stay away from foods that are inflammatory. Processed foods or anything fried are bad for those with arthritis because they contribute to inflammation. Once you stop eating these foods such as fried poultry or meat and meals that come frozen you will be aiding the body in repairing itself. Adding more fruits and vegetables to replace processed or fried foods is an excellent alternative.

The same goes for foods that are high in calories or fat. Excess weight is severe on those with arthritis because it is more strenuous on the joints and can increase the deterioration of tissue and cartilage. It is best to engage in moderate exercises and lose weight in order to alleviate pain and decrease damage to the joints.

Sugar is bad for those with arthritis and this extends to products with high sugar content as well. Dairy is not good for the pain caused by arthritis since it has a certain type of protein that is known to aggravate the joints tissues. It is possible to exchange your protein intake from dairy to vegetables and nuts, such as beans, spinach, quinoa and a variety of nuts.

Similarly to dairy products, the protein from meat is not beneficial to those with arthritis. Those who eat meat products can experience inflammatory reactions, especially from red meat. Many of those with arthritis have found it beneficial to switch to a vegan diet and feel that their body works better by having done so.

Vegetables that grow in the night or are particularly found of shady areas are best to be avoided. There include tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant and peppers. The reason for this is that vegetables that thrive in shade have a property known as alkaloids that contribute to swelling and increased pain.

An excess of preservatives and salt is also damaging for those with arthritis because they cause joints to become inflamed. A number of foods that are premade, canned or frozen are packed with salt and preservatives. It is best to control your salt intake by preparing your own food or asking for reduced salt versions in restaurants.
